A few months back, not long ago, Youtube, the Largest video – sharing website on the planet launched the portal BoxOffice , which promised a blockbuster movie every month from the Indian Movie Studios. This portal has been received quite well by the Indian Audiences. Citing the response , Youtube had begun adding more movies to it and also brought out the regional flavor by roping in a few regional movies as well.
The portal is a eye-catching one, Perfectly designed , resembling a movie hall. One Notable feature of BoxOffice is that they have been showing their movies in both SD (Standard Definition) and also HD (Hi-Definition) . So, Users can watch Full HD Movies (1080p) from anywhere in the world. The users need not have to pay anything , the Channel is Free of Cost for the users. You only need to possess a good internet connection and a Flash Player installed on your browsers.
BoxOffice channel is sponsored by Intel and there are 15 Second Ads after every 10 minutes of movie, which roughly counts upto 12-15 ads per movie since Indian films tend to go beyond 2 Hrs in most of the cases. These Ads cannot be paused, hidden or skipped. Users may not mind these small ads and the Movie Producers can also rake in a good amount with this advertising. There are even a few competitions to participate and win goodies, like a quiz based on the movie of the month etc……
One more good fact : The Movies never expire and you watch the previous releases , anytime, anywhere in Full HD too…….

Yahoo! MOVIEPLEX :
If Google is cashing in on Movies, why would Yahoo! choose to remain behind?, following almost a similar line, Yahoo! has launched their own Portal MoviePlex, to showcase Indian Movie titles. They do not have a “Blockbuster – a – month” rule, but plan to add Movies regularly.
Being a relatively new service, nothing can be speculated about its future plans, but as of now, They have a limited collection and they are quite popular titles too ………..
Yahoo! MoviePlex is also a Free Service and the notable fact : It has no ads in between. The service is sponsored by LG Cinema 3D and they have small ad only in the start . The website is also a eye-catching one. The website requires a flash player to watch the videos like BoxOffice and therefore Ipad users are isolated here. The Movies shown here are in SD and it doesn’t have HD option for the movies unlike BoxOffice.
Summarizing the above , We can assume that Internet Giants are now looking to cash on the Lucrative Indian Movie Industry. First Google , followed by Yahoo!, We shouldn’t be surprised if Bing or MSN follow the suit. In any case, the average Indian Movie goer is at ease since he is getting to watch movies free of cost, and that too in High Definition. The Producers are also happy since their Cash registers will keep ringing even months after the release of their movies.
This Kind of System is Commendable as it kills piracy to a good extent and also keeps everyone happy. If the Portals begin to use HTML5, It would be much more useful since Ipad users are being neglected by using flash. The tablet market is growing at a enormous pace in India and one shouldn’t neglect that fact. So, isn’t it time to get some PopCorn, eh ???
