Users of Reliance Internet must have had a hell of time struggling to share files Online because of a temporary block-out of File Sharing websites such as Mediafire, FileSonic ,HotFile and many more. This has been a defensive act by the Producers – Reliance Pictures of the Bollywood-Hindi Movie “Don-2“, who wanted to prevent online piracy from taking place through these useful but mis-useable File Sharing Websites. Only users of Reliance suffered, whereas BSNL, Airtel etc. didn’t follow same.

It may be well-worth a tactic to do things like these, but the question is “How many more”?, Considering some similar Block-Out’s during  the release of movies like “Singham” and “Ready“.  If the Biggest Film Industry in the World begins to think of such narrow-minded techniques, what would happen to the normal internet user? Was it such a  necessity to stop the whole network from running for a single movie?

Consider this : A top-budget Hindi movie blocks the web-site, this will cause a domino effect over the Regional films too, which are infact much more popular and larger than the Hindi-Movie Industry. If Tamil, Telugu,Malayalam etc. producers too start doing the same, it will be pretty hard to survive. With almost 3 movies being released in India everyday, and every actor wanting to save his film, resorting to some cheap tricks will never help. It further deepens the wound by fueling the sale of Pirated Disc’s as a hard-copy instead of soft-copy.

There are a few methods of saving piracy, which Indian  producers never really care.  Releasing movies online by themselves on popular sites like Youtube could be more profitable than imagined.  When you are getting to watch a High-resolution Movie for free from the Producer’s themselves, who wouldn’t refuse? Youtube BoxOffice is one such successful attempt and Yahoo MoviePlex is another.

Digitization of Screening is an other technique where the usual lamp-projector screens are replaced with digital-screens is another way to stop people from “Cam-Rip”ping the movie, which usually is the fastest way, a movie gets pirated. But Producer’s Back-Out here considering the heavy Costs-Involved in filming and displaying the same.

Its high-time that Indian Government takes action on these producers from blocking sites by their own will. Its a free-world on Internet, and in a Democracy like India It isn’t a good thing to deny services without a cause or warning. It would be better to shun out Reliance and start using other services to teach a lesson or two to those people. Sites like megaupload, rapidshare etc. have their servers located outside India, so Suing them legally doesn’t help. So they carry out these tricks.

Reliance Pictures had obtained Court Orders to block the Sites and the blockage has been lifted by now, but there’s no guarantee it will not happen again. So it’s wise to discard the service rather than struggling for getting Justice.
